BIOGRAPHIC INFORMATION

Mikhail Mandrigin was born in 1947 in Shanghai, China to Russian parents. Together with his sister he was primarily educated privately at home and from the age of seven has demonstrated a keen interest in modelling and drawing.

Formal tuition in sculpture and drawing started when Mikhail was 13 and was conducted by a gifted young Chinese sculptor, Tsu Tsu Wei. In addition to devoting as much time as possible to sculpture and drawing, Mikhail was also seriously interested in architectural, furniture and graphic design.

At the age of 16 Mikhail was invited to study as a Guest Student at the Sculpture School of the Royal Academy Schools of Art in London, and after arriving in the UK in 1964 Mikhail commenced a four year course at the RAS.

After graduating in 1968 from the Royal Academy School of Arts Mikhail commenced the full five year course at the Architectural Association School of Architecture, from which he graduated in 1975.

During the following 5 years Mikhail worked as a Technical Director in his family's company and at the same time designed contemporary furniture.

In 1980 Mikhail joined the Carl Fished Partnership, where he stayed for 4 years working on a number of live projects, successfully passing the RIBA Part 3 examinations to become a fully qualified Architect in 1983.

In 1984 Mikhail moved to GMW Partnership, where he worked on the St. Enoch Square shopping centre in Glasgow and several office buildings, including the Barclays Bank HQ building in the City of London. In 1988 he joined Fitzroy Robinson Partnership as a Senior Associate, working on a variety of projects, including the Lanesborough Hotel at Hyde Park Corner in Central London, before progressing to designing the British Soviet Trade Centre in Moscow and other international projects.

In 1992 Mikhail established his own architectural practice, Mikhail Mandrigin Associates (MMA) with offices in London and Moscow. Over the next 12 years as Principle of the practice he was responsible together with his team for designing a number of major projects in Russia, including the Usadba Centre, and several projects in the UK.

In 2004 MMA was acquired by Fitzroy Robinson Partnership and Mikhail became the European Managing Director of the Aukett Fitzroy Robinson Group and General Director of the Russian subsiduary "Aukett Fitzroy Vostok". During the following 10 years Mikhail was responsible for and participated in the design of a number of major projects in Russia, including the Legion 2 Office Complex, the Alcon Multi-function Complex and Olympisky Hotel & Office complex in Moscow, as well as the 3600 guestroom Resort and Spa Hotel Complex, built in time for the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.

In July 2014 Mikhail retired from full time employment and is now concentrating on providing architectural expert consultancy services and re-establishing his career as a sculptor.
